Please remember!

We are all volunteers

We don't all climb ladders, and you wouldn't have to either if you come and join us

Any assistance and support (either financial or physical) is greatly appreciated

We don't discriminate on age, race or gender anyone can join us

We don't work for the council!

We're not on overtime!

We are a completely separate organisation to the Carnival Committee, and the Festival Committee, but we sometimes assist them

Switch On Day 2005

Switch on day this year is to be on Saturday 26th November. We still have a few slots available in the entertainment schedule and if you would like to perform please contact the press secretary.

Details of this year's switch on day entertainment can be found here.

Thank you everyone

Well the lights are up and most of them are on. It was a very hard job this year to get the scheme installed and a number of people deserve some special thanks. The biggest thanks needs to go to Central Networks for letting our volunteer Steve, who works for them, bring along one of their hoists for the installation of this year's display. Without this help it would have been just about impossible to get the scheme installed on time. We'd also like to thank Steve's family for looking after his children while he was helping us on Sunday mornings.

I'd also like to thank Jackie, Trevor, Henry, Irene, Tony, Mark, Barry, Martin, Joe, Liam, Chris and Dave and everyone who worked incredibly hard in getting the scheme up and running this year. Thanks also go to everyone who worked like Trojans on switch on day.

Please help us

Each year the number of volunteers who install the Christmas Lights has slowly dwindled. We now stand at 10 volunteers and desperately need some new blood within the team. As well as installing the display there are a number of other tasks which also need to be completed. We are trying to move to our new shed, but before we can do this we need to put up shelving and prepare the new shed for our move. In addition we also need to continue to run our sponsor a bulb / raffle stall on Saturday mornings. There are also a number of small maintenance tasks to be carried out on some of the lights prior to their installation.

We really need to get all of these tasks completed to enable us to continue in the future, but without additional volunteers this will be incredibly difficult. If you can help in any way, please get in touch with the press secretary on 07970 421716 or by using the e'mail link below. We will be publishing a complete task list for the lights on this website early in the new year. If you feel that you could spare some time to help with any of the tasks please get in touch.

If any of the existing team need to stand down in the coming months there may not be enough of us to continue. Please don't let this be the end of this long running tradition.
